1921 Martin 000-45
1921 Martin 000-45 in very good condition. This was the most expensive production guitar available in 1921 and as such is quite rare today. The large 15" body and long scale with bracing designed for steel strings makes for a remarkable instrument. The tone is incredibly balanced with a very warm depth to every note. This guitar had been repaired many years ago and was in need of a complete restoration. The following repairs were done in-house by Tom: reconstruction of the volute, new ebony bridge (supplied by TJ Thompson), exact size maple bridge plate, restoring the french polishing of the body and neck as the guitar was previously refinished in polyurethane, two restored inlays, partial rebinding near the neck-joint and on the first few frets of the treble side as well as a neck reset. Tom also repaired several back cracks and two side cracks that are almost impossible to find with the naked eye. Constructed with a spruce top, beautifully quarter sawn Brazilian rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge. The inlaid celluloid pick-guard is original. Interestingly the guitar two serial numbers away to this guitar is a 000-42 with the same pick-guard, likely ordered by the same shop. Pictures and a description form George Gruhn can be found here. This guitar features a fingerboard width at the nut of 1 7/8", thickness at the first fret of .83", thickness at the tenth fret of 1.04", and weighs 3.20 lbs exactly. This guitar comes with the original hardshell case.
