1923 Gibson A-4
1923 Gibson A-4 mandolin in excellent condition. Here is a lovely Loar-era snakehead mandolin. These are among the finest made and most sought A mandolins ever built. All original with the exception of an exact repro pickguard made here. The finish is all original French polish. The back and sides are made from figured maple and the top is Adirondack spruce. Interestingly Gibson only specified the type of spruce used on the F-5 (Norwegian) and the A-4 (Adirondack). Playability is wonderful with room to raise or lower the action to suit your style. There is a small well repaired crack near the tailblock. Original tuners and truss rod function as they should. The sound is everything you could want in an A style mandolin. Has enough bark to cut through the mix but plenty of sweet woodiness when played with a light touch. Overall a wonderful instrument in every way. Comes with the original hard case which has a newer handle.
