1940 Martin 00-18

1940 Martin 00-18 in good condition.  A charming pre-war 00 with fine sound.  The attractive Red Spruce top and rich tortoise pickguard combined with ebony bridge and fingerboard make for gorgeous instrument.  This guitar has recently gone through a restoration in our shop.  We reset the neck  to the original saddle.  The action is very comfortable with standard light gauge strings.  100% crack free, not even the ubiquitous pickguard crack.  Original full height bridge, nut, tuners, saddle, and frets.  When we removed the neck to reset it we discovered the side that faces you while playing had been replaced by Martin.  The work is exquisite and would take the keenest eye to detect without seeing the body with neck off.  Appears to have been done not long after the guitar was new.  The finish on the top is all original and in excellent condition.  Areas of the side and back have been worn through the finish and touched up years ago.  The sound is warm and sweet.  The combination of Red Source, scalloped braces, and ebony bridge and fingerboard are a well known winning mix.  There is a lightness and airiness when played softly that is mesmerizing.  The balance at medium volume is impeccable and when you drive it hard goes into a full growl.  A fine sounding guitar.  Includes original hard case in good condition.
