1940 Orpheum Imperial
Circa 1940 Orpheum Imperial archtop in very good condition. This appears to have been made by Gretsch in the early 1940s. Solid carved spruce top, laminate flamed maple back and sides, maple neck, ebony fingerboard, and Brazilian rosewood bridge. The body is 17" at lower bout, 12 1/2" at upper bout, 3 1/2" deep all the way around. Has a long 26" scale length and 1 23/32" nut width. The neck shape is like a late 40s Gibson with full rounded profile. The original tailpiece is engraved with "Orpheum". Has original pickguard which has evidence of a previously mounted DeArmound pickup. Has had a refret with large wire and replaced Grover Imperial tuners, likely replacements of original Imperials. Hard to beat the deco look of this one. Real pearl inlays and multiple bindings everywhere! The sound is woody and tight. This would make a great stage guitar! Includes deluxe original hard case.
