1953 Martin D-18

1953 Martin D-18 in very good condition.  This is one of the much talked about non-Sitka top guitars from 1953.  Hard to say if it is Red spruce or Engleman but it is certainly not Sitka.  All original guitar with only minor repairs ever done.  Two neatly repair top cracks in the lower bout and the usual pickguard crack and one two inch back crack.  The neck has not been reset nor does it need it. The original ivory saddle is uncut and the action is at 7/64" on the bass side and 5/64" on the treble at the 12th fret.  The original bridge is uncut same for the nut.  The power and tone of this guitar is impressive.  The trebles are thick and singing while the midrange puts out enough umph to put any banjo in its place.  The neck is a comfortable rounded shape with plenty of heft to it and the original frets are in good shape.  These D-18 from 1953 are special guitars with a unique sound.  We have had several pass though our shop and continue to be wowed by them.  With pristine examples fetching as much as $18,000 it is obvious the market has caught on to their greatness.  Includes 1970s Martin blue case.
