1961 Gretsch 6120
Interesting Gretsch 6120 model we have here. It has a correct label with 40737 serial which belongs to a batch of 1961 6120s. This guitar however does not have the expected shallow body and neck joint from 1961. The peghead overlay appears to be a replacement. The pickguard and pickup surrounds are replacements. The hardware, wiring, pickups, knobs are correct for an early 1960s Gretsch. Its a bit of a mystery as to wether this guitar began its life as a 6120 or another gretsch model that was very convincingly modified into one. Despite the serial number the rest of the features are what is seen in 1960. All the hardwear was replated in gold. The original Bigsby is broken and in the case and it wears a vintage although not correct model. All the work was done many years ago as the finish is nicely faded much like you would expect. The price refelcts the alterations and this is a killer Gretsch for the player. It features a scale length of 24 5/8", fingerboard width at the nut of 1 11/16”, thickness at the first fret of 0.88” thickness at the twelfth fret of 1.15” and weighs 7.3 lbs exactly. It comes with a later 1960s hard case.
