1934 Gibson Roy Smeck Stage De Luxe
1934 Gibson Roy Smeck Stage De Luxe in very good condition. Tom converted this Roy Smeck to Spanish style. The process involved: neck reset, neck reshaping taking the nut width down from 2 1/8" to 1 13/16", adding a 1/2" aluminum square tube to stiffen the neck, filled and recut bridge for saddle compensation and fretting. The neck finish is a spot on match of the original done using the same techniques as Gibson used in this time period. The neck reinforcement makes for a stiff neck that will not bend from string tension. The material we use has the same mass as the wood removed and does not color the sound. Tom did his usual masterful job of carving the neck and giving this guitar the new life it deserves. This Stage De Luxe has one professionally sealed top crack. This Roy Smeck was constructed with a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, a mahogany neck with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, and a Brazilian rosewood bridge. This guitar has a scale length of 24 3/4" and weighs 3.47 lbs. The neck measures 1 13/16” at the nut, has a depth of 0.95” at the first fret, a depth of 1.00" at the ninth fret, and the guitar has non-scalloped bracing. This exceptionally light Roy Smeck Stage De Luxe has a full, rich, woody sound with extraordinary projection. The guitar has an extremely comfortable soft “V” neck carve and responds equally well when fingerpicked or flatpicked. Includes a red heavy duty Calton flight case.
