1958 Gibson SJ-E Southern Jumbo Electric Steve Earle Collection
1958 Gibson SJ-E in very good condition from the personal collection of Steve Earle. This Gibson guitar was most likely a custom order started in 1958 and completed in the early 60's. This one-of-a-kind Gibson has an unusual combination of features that blend J-160e style construction with Southern Jumbo appointments. The guitar is all original and has two professionally repaired top cracks running from the bottom of the bridge to the edge lower bout. This SJ-E was constructed with a ladder braced spruce ply top with an early 60's style cherry sunburst and factory double pickguards, mahogany back and sides, a mahogany neck with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard featuring double parallelogram inlays, and a Brazilian rosewood bridge with an adjustable saddle. The guitar has three ply binding and a pearl crown headstock inlay more commonly seen on the J-160e. It also features a black painted "stinger" on the back of the headstock and a trussrod cover that is engraved "custom". The neck measures 1 11/16" at the nut, 0.93" at the first fret, and a 1.04 at the tenth fret. The guitar has a 24 3/4" scale and weighs 4.99 lbs. A unique, spectacular looking Gibson with a great sounding P-90 pickup that would make an incredible stage guitar. Comes with a non original hardshell case.
